Structural

Structural ironworking involves erecting the steel skeleton the support buildings and bridges. The Structural Ironworker hoists steel members and makes the initial connection. Then stabilizes the structure by bolting, welding, and installing steel decking. Structural ironwork is physically demanding and requires the ability to work at dizzying heights using heavy tools and materials.

Rigging

Ironworkers hoist the heaviest loads in all of construction. An ironworker must choose the correct rigging components and use them in the proper configuration to lift structural and mechanical components into place safely.

Reinforcing

Reinforcing steel is used to strengthen the concrete that buildings and roads are made of. Ironworkers place heave reinforcing steel into position before the concrete is poured. Final installation of the rebar is often done by hand and requires physical strength and endurance.

Welding

Welding is an essential ironworking skill. Ironworkers use different welding processes to create the steel structures of buildings and bridges. Ironworks must be able to prepare work areas in order to weld at elevated positions.

Ornamental

Ornamental ironworkers install the exterior skin of buildings that seals the building from weather and creates eye catching facades.

Miscellaneous

Miscellaneous ironworking involves the Installation and erection of metal stairways, catwalks, gratings, doors, railings, fencing, elevator fronts and building entrances.
